GC chap.1

When I was reading Chap.1, I was nervous because Lyra was hiding in wardrobe, and I worried about her safety. It was a tense situation which she could not get out of the room before someone came into the room, and she looked at the secret the Master put some powder in a wine which Asriel was going to drink. Once she looked at that, she was an important witness against the crime which was supposed to happen later.
Just one thing I wondered in the chap.1 is why Asriel did not say any appreciate word to Lyra after she told the fact that the Master put some poisonous stuff in the wine. Insted of his appreciation, he ordered to protect him without her safety. I am almost going to hate him because he has never treated her kindly. He is not a man. However, I think that he only allowed his daemon to feel him to relax. What a poor he is !

I agree... he seems to be appropriately modeled on the "devil" or "Satan" figure from Paradise Lost.

I think in a good book and also in a film you should have someone or something evil. That' s very interesting even if you can not identify with it.

All of the stories about devils are a kind of phantasie stories, or have you ever seen a devil and the hell??

I agree, I also thought that although Asriel was being rude to her, why didn't Lyra even tried to resist him?

According to the book, author mentions that Lyra endured that pain when Asriel twisted her arm.

Therefore, I'm wondering that there could be some kind of connection between them that we haven't found yet.
