Hopefilly, a good movie has any criticism.

After reading two articles about the Golden Compass, I have felt bad because I dislike to listen any slander to my expectation which I have not seen yet.

I understand that any person or any movies alway have bad rumor or gossip around them. I dare say "a good movie has a gossip. It proves that it is good."

The article says that Pullman, author of the Golden Compass, is dishonest or something to criticize him, but I would like to say that it doesn't matter for people who enjoy the book and expect the movie would be good. The one of two article in Crimson White clearly says that the movie is bad, the actors are bad, too. He doesn't have the right to damn the movie, or he could hold his thought about the movie in his mind. He doesn't need to show it us. It causes me to feel bad or to just detest him.

I would like to tell them " so could you make it better than the movie your self?", or "do you have better skill to write novel such as the great and impressive novel?"

If they can say "yes", I accept their opinions and would expect that they will produce a BETTER movie.

Anyway, I would like to watch the Golden Compass in a theater, and even if I am not unsatisfied the content to the movie, I would not criticise it. I would just say my opinion about the movie.

Final Chapter in The Golden Compass

In the last two chapters, 22 and 23(wow! I have read so much!), Lyra who is still a child had gotten alone except with Pan after she crossed a tiny and weak bridge. She was very worrying and scary because she had always stayed with someone such as Iorek or Coram. However, through her long and dangerous journey, Lyra was growing up to an adult who is independence to save her friend, Roger, and to save Load Asriel who was mean to Lyra when she had come up to his northern house to save him.

Lyra has gotten a lot of friends during the jouney since she left the Jordan College or escape from Mrs. Coulter who could not finally understand her husband, Asriel, so they might make her grow up. Ma Costa in gyptian's family made Lyra understand a mother's great warmthe thru taking care of her after Lyra got attacked by robbers, and Farder Coram gave her a real farther's warmth which Load Asriel had never given to Lyra. Also, a very important character who made Lyra grow up is a armed bear, Iorek, who loved Lyra and she also did it. Iorek saved her many time, and he is very essencial character in this story.

This girl's adventure story involves a deep humanity which is related with between Lyra and many characters she had met in her journey. Even though this has many scientific fictional thing such as a daemon, this story makes us think about humanity which is essencial for human beings. I like it.

ART

I am the furthest person from any arts of the universe, I think. If you look at my drawing on the paper, you would not be flattered even for joke. I could understand which pictures are good or not, but I could not admire mine when I draw it. When I was a elementary student, my unfavorable subject in school was the art, though my favorite was a physical education...

When I am drawing it, my write hand with five fingers become not mine. The hand becomes out of control even though I can use a chop stick very well on being starving.

Some scientist says that the ability of arts is controled by our right brain, while the mathmatical ability is done by another side. I like math and like to think something logistically to manage my plan or process what I have to understand. I think I am the side of people who are good at mathmatic, not an art side.

Therefore, the text book which showed what the art is helps me to understand how to compose an art, and it tought me what I have to look at in a museum.

I hope I can be a person who understand an arts
I wish I were familiar with it.

Summer Trip

Though we will finish this fall semester in two weeks and have a winter Cristmas break soon, I am now thinking about Summer break planning because I do not like cold weather or want stay in house in winter, so I do not have any plan in this winter break. Then I need to think about summer break because my friend has a plan to come to the United States in coming summer!

Actually, in this area, the south region of United States, there are no sightseeing locations, I think even though there are the big cities, Atlanta or New Orleans, and I have already visited to these cities. I do not want to go same city twice or more because I do not have enough time to go anywhere to visit. Then, I have a good idea not only to invite my friend to the U.S. but also to be able to enjoy myself. The idea is to go to Grand Canyon, AZ. The major spot is the place which I really want to go before I cam to here, and my friend also want to go.

When I have searched the detail of the tour to Grad Canyon via Internet, there are many different types of plan that departs from Las Vegas, NV, and the cost is kind of expensive like over $400 for one night stay. I want my friend to have a great experience in the U.S. and I do not want to decide the plan depending on the cost.

So, if you have any suggestions about the trip to Grand Canyon, let me know.

Thank you

TGC chap.18-19 in Svalbard

In these chapters, we recognize Lyra's cleverness.
When she talked to Iofur Raknison, king of bear, she told a lie that she was Iorek Byrnison' daemon to save everything, her life, Load Asriel, and Iorek. Her triking skill is no more child's one. Hers is an adult's. Her trick contract was going well because he was more silly than Lyra.
I hope the contract succeeds to finish this story.

I also like the great witch, Serafina Pekkala, who is a real woman unlike Mrs.Coulter. I think she is a first person who Lyra could talk honestly about everything and listen for the fact of her real story so far. She is like Lyra's mother or a pure lady who loves Farder Coram. I thought this is an adventure story to help missed children and Loar Asriel, but it is also a love story between Serafina Pekkala and Farder Coram....

I got a new fun thing with the love, not only about rescuing Load Asriel !!

#2

After reading #2 article "Where Will They Sleep Tonight?", I thought that women are protected more than men are in the United States because the goverment has tried to give some strategies to safe the women from the situation of vagant. I don't have any complaints to the ideas which women should be more take care of than men because women are not stronger than others in society or the fact. They are always victims of rape or robberty, so the goverment shoud support them to prevent from the cruelty.

However let me say something about this coherent fact.

Who made this terreble situation in the United States or our world?

The answer is of course the goverment. Some people would complain this because we have to work and earn money ourselves to live or to independent in our society, but if poor people aren't accepted some companies, how can they earn money? If the government gives more chances to get job to the society, it could change something much better, can't it?

Any time, goverment has continued the mistaken. That makes this world more disorder and get worse. People of couse hope to get better our economy and success the works, but there is always a catch, so we need to concern about the weak point every time before we get a mistake.

Art

We can see any arts of the middle ages in museum even in Alabama. I would like to see them because the arts show their religious history or old techniques of arts, and the arts also give a lot of impression.

What is the impression from the arts?

Why are we impressed by the arts?

I sometime confuse my impression because it is very hard to understand what the artist think about to make it. People can imagine the surrounding of artists or the background to see the great creation, but it is difficult to catch it. However, we are impressed because something works on it during we look at. Any of great arts attract us to stare it and we cannot sometimes move out in front of the arts. Still it is difficult to express why we are so imppressed by great arts, but I understand that they have huge power of something to stop us moving out and shut our mouth up. The myth might atract me to see the favorites.

Terre Haute, IN

I have been to many sities in the south region of United states such as New Orleans, Atlanta and some cities in Florida, Tennessee and Kentucky. All cities have given me some impression. And then, this time, I am coming to the north part of the United States, Terre Haute, IN, taking 45 mintes away from Indianapolice by car. I am getting a different impression about the United States.

At the last diary, I wrote about a sidewalk in Tuscaloosa. Here, Terre Haute has the sidewalk beside every streets. Even thhough it is very cold weather, I can see people run well with winter running clothes. I don't see big people like Alabama in Indiana. In Japan, every streets has sidewalks so that people could be safe and do exercise. Indiana gives me same impression as Japanese one I felt in Japan. I thought as if I was in my home town, Japan.

Therefore, I realize each place has each style, and my favors are in each cities. I much more like the United states than before I came to the United States.

TGC chap.10-11

In these chapters of 11 and 12, the main character is of course the armer bear, Iorek Byrnison, who Lyra tried to get as a mate in gyptians.
All adventure stories have adopted character like a main character who is very strong and aggressive and sub-characters who support the main as a soldier or magician. Iorek, who is very strong and huge, plays a role of the soldier in this story. I hope he can protect Lyra a lot, and he is going to work great.

Lyra, who can read the alethiemeter better than the first time she had it, and she can guess well to what is going on next. That is her ability which she didn't realize herself so far and Mr.Coulter and Asriel did. Even though she is still a child, she is getting understand what she has to do for the gyptians' group.

The tittle of this part two, Bolvangar, means a place where the gyptians are heading to collect the kidnapped children. Now, we are going to start a fascinating trip with Lyra.

SideWalk

Coming to T-town, I have struggled with sidewalk while I am jogging.
There are no signals and roads for walker around campus, so people sould feel scare to some coming trucks, and I don't think that the big trucks take care of the pedestrians on passing beside of.

Alabama is ranked top of obesity states in the nation for a long time, nevertheless why doesn't the goverment try to make Alabama residences do exercise in daily life? They always use their cars even if they go ATM, MacDonald, or next to the house. I understand that it is very convenient to get the stuff you need, but I am sure that it causes to push the obesity rate up not only Alabama but also United States.

If every street had sidewalk for pedestrians or cyclists, the residences would try to use their feet or bycicles because gas price, as you know, is going gradually up to over a dollar higher than last year. We don't have any chance to walk or to go to shopping by foot because of no sidewalk. In Florida who is ranked 42 out of fifty in the obesity ranking, there are sidewalk or exclusive use spaces for bycicle every single streets in the town, particularly Gainesville.

I hopeTuscaloosa is changed to healthy town.

TGC chap.6&7

This chapters are very important to understand many myths which why Lyra's parents weren't described much so far, why Lyra was staying at Jordan college, or why the Master of Jordan had tried to kill Load Asriel. You need to find the answers out to go on next stage with Lyra.

By the way, it was so tough for Lyra to get her real situation from King Faa because she is still a child who is innocent. She is confusing the truth that not only Load Asriel was her real father but also Mrs. Coulter was her mother!!!, to whom Lyra had disappointed.

Lyra is the most poor girl in the world because she could not have stayed with and known her real parents who had been close to her. She would like to stay with them and nestle against her mother's neck or hug her father as her parents !!!

Punctuation.

The writer, Russel Baker, said that we can put any punctuation as if we talk, but if I am not familiar English so much, what should I do to put correct one? Reading some articles or newspaper, I can understand how the punctuation works well, while writing my essay or journal, the things change to make me struggle with using it on the way. He means that the more we read articles, the more we can improve the skill to be familiar with punctuation. I think I need practice to make longer sentences with diverse words before struggle with how to punctuate.

To make a long sentence is very tough to me, maybe it results from lack of vocab? I would like to get more expression words to make my sentences have more volume. I have heard that ladies possess more expression words than men have because women are used to express their feeling like how beautiful it is or how happy they are some like that, while men just say like "oh,it's good; you are nice; or good job!"

Anyway I would like to advise myself "Do more practice!"

Golden Compass

I will never mistake again the tittle "the Golden Compass", not CAMPUS, after the compass which the Master gave Lyra in a secret has become a keyword in this fantasy book.
At the beginning of story, Lyra, a innocent girl and never been living out side of the Jordan College, is drawn as if she is a uneducated but has much more experience in a life than other girls has.
Mrs.Coulter whose daemon is a golden monkey has given Lyra any oppotunities to let her graw up or let her follow, but some rebellious ideas have built in Lyra's mind due to the notice that she might not go to the North.
My favorite point of this book is the dialogue between Lyra and Pantalaimon, Lyra's daemon. His advises to Lyra are always working on a right way, and he looks like her mirror being albe to show her feeling. His advises are what we want to tell Lyra and very importtant part of this story. That he can change his form, a mouse or moth, expresses Lyra's unbalance feeling any girls have. Lyra is still a child, but I am looking forward to see that Lyra will change to a lady and how Pantalaimon helps her to growing up.

Behavior

We have a lot of questions about human behaviors in our daily life. In the text, it is said the comparisons of behaviors toward snakes between babies and adults, and I understand the writer's opinion that we are afraid of getting close to snakes because we know that snakes have a possibility to bite us. If we did not have any knowledge that snakes are one of the animals who make us dangerous or any scarely movies about snakes kiling you, we could stay with snakes comfortablely.
Every animates including human beings, animals, and plants have unique behaviors so that they could survive theirselves in each worlds. We, human beings, behave based on a stereotype or experience we have so far. We aren't afraid of anything unless we have abundant experiences to make our life better. Animals probably learn something to prevent from danger with their seniors and need to get stronger or to get the strategy to survive due to that fact that they are always a target of the predators. Likewise, plants also have something to survive as same reasons.
This topic is still in myth. Nobody has proven it yet, but I like to see the human's behavior because I am a person who likes to learn from other.

Btwn Physiology and psychology

Do you have an experience which you got sick when you got too much stress? I always get a headache when I feel deep stress. At beginning of this week, I got sick with terrible headache feeling fever after I had some stress due to my little trouble(I think it was not little). A sick is, I am sure, coming from too much stress. That is always said in my country, so we do not treat the person who gets sick so much because we think that it is not a real sick, and it is a psychological sick.

However, I am wondering why people can get a mental sick easily. Many scientists would persist in research to find the exact reason, and, in my opinion, there are two types of people who can get it easily and are very tough against any stress. People who can easily get sick are sensitive and might be weak with their immunity against any resistance at their body, while others who are very mentally tough are independent by themselves, and they have a positive goal to stand on. Of the two types people, the former seems more likely, but most of people would like to be the latter. i also would like be stronger in physically and mentally.

Halloween

I had a bad experience to a Halloween day. A couple years ago, it was a time I had spent in Alabama for just two months, i had not understood what it was going to happen on a Halloween day such as children's Trick or Treat.

On the last day of October, kids was walking around my apartment complex, and said "Trick or Treat!" to get some candies and chocolates from neighbors. As a good traditional custom, the neighboers gave them some sweet with smile WHEN WE THINK TO GIVE THEM. However, I hadn't realized the custom they come up to my house, so then I had slept at 10:30 pm. I had been tired so much, so I had fell in deep sleep. Next day, I had been supposed to get my bicycle to be headding for school, there was no bicycle over there. Once again, we are supposed to give kids some sweet WHEN WE ARE THERE on the Halloween day, but they had taken my bicycle out instead of some sweets.

The day was Horror-een day to me, so I do not have a good impression for the day.

GC chap.1

When I was reading Chap.1, I was nervous because Lyra was hiding in wardrobe, and I worried about her safety. It was a tense situation which she could not get out of the room before someone came into the room, and she looked at the secret the Master put some powder in a wine which Asriel was going to drink. Once she looked at that, she was an important witness against the crime which was supposed to happen later.
Just one thing I wondered in the chap.1 is why Asriel did not say any appreciate word to Lyra after she told the fact that the Master put some poisonous stuff in the wine. Insted of his appreciation, he ordered to protect him without her safety. I am almost going to hate him because he has never treated her kindly. He is not a man. However, I think that he only allowed his daemon to feel him to relax. What a poor he is !

discuss my strength and weakness of a writing

What I always confuse in my writing is how to use an article 'a' or 'the'. I know 'a' is put only with countable words while 'the' is with uncountable words. Can you exactly distinguish which word is countable or uncountable? Do you have any good ideas to definitely distinguish the two confusing words?

It is confusing for me to distinguish these two kinds of words. 'Milk' is able to count, isn't it? yes.. How about 'paper'? Is it an uncountable word? We can see how MANY PAPERS there are on a disk as a countable word, but we have to say how MUCH PAPER there is. The reason why I confuse to choose either one word is the difference of expression of language from Japanese one. In my country, Japan, every single word has a countable way to make sure it is a thing or an animal, or how big or how shape it is. Therefore, we can count for one paper, two papers, three papers, and so on, or one house, two houses, and three houses.

Probably, my brain might work in Japanese even though I don't realize that. Is increasing my English vocabulary the best solution to conquer my problem in wiring ? If you have any suggestions to prevent from the problem, let me know.... Oh, is the word 'suggestion' coutable or uncountable?
thanks.
